Christmas Lights / String of Lights

Christmas Lights – Pattern No. (many, see below)

Fiesta Christmas Lights or String of Lights

History:

This pattern was introduced in 2002 in the original colorway.  It was originally called Christmas Lights and exclusive to the SAKS department store group (Saks, Proffitt’s, McRae’s, and Parisian as well as Elder-Beerman, Carson’s, Pirie Scott, Bergner’s, Younker’s, and Herberger’s).

In 2006 Bon-Ton acquired part of the SAKS group. The Bon-Ton group (Bon-Ton, Boston Store, Carsons, Elder-beerman, Bergner’s, Younkers & Herberger’s) acquired the exclusive to the pattern as well.  In 2007 we see the first colorway change and the first ornament.

Called “String of Lights” or “SOL” by most collectors, the store retains the name “Christmas Lights or Bon-Ton Lights” on most of their price tags.  Since retailers name their exclusive designs, “Christmas Lights” is the official name.

Colorways: Christmas Lights has come in multiple colorways. A colorway is the different range of color combinations in which the pattern is, or was available in. In the Christmas Lights pattern, there have been 4 different colorways produced to date in the dinnerware. They are described below.

Currently there are 4 colorways that can be found in this design on the dinnerware.

Colorway #1    Pattern No. 5034

Fiesta Christmas Lights or String of Lights

The original colorway, or colorway #1, of the SAKS Christmas Lights pattern, had 1 of each of the following color of light bulbs, 8 in total, unless the piece was large enough for it to need to repeat such as the 0458 Platter 13 5/8”.  The colors in this colorway are: Cinnabar, Plum, Shamrock, Periwinkle, Turquoise, Persimmon, Sunflower, & Cobalt.

Colorway #2   Pattern No. unknown

Fiesta Christmas Lights or String of Lights

The second colorway came after some of the colors in the first colorway were discontinued, such as Periwinkle & Persimmon, while others were swapped out for newer colors, such as Turquoise & Plum.  It first appears on the 2007 ornament with the same pattern number as the first colorway.  The colors in the second colorway are: Cinnabar, Shamrock, Peacock, Evergreen, Scarlet, Sunflower, Cobalt, & Tangerine.

Note: Colorway #2; since the pattern # is unknown, it is not possible to look up what shapes were made in this colorway. I personally own 2 luncheon plates in this colorway and after asking many other collectors could not come up with any other shapes or a pattern number. This does not mean there were no other shapes applied with this colorway, just that it has not been verified at this time.

Colorway #3   Pattern No. 8999

Fiesta Christmas Lights or String of Lights

The third colorway came the following year, 2008 with Heather replacing Cinnabar.  The colors in the third colorway are: Heather, Shamrock, Peacock, Evergreen, Scarlet, Sunflower, Cobalt, & Tangerine.

Colorway #4   Pattern No. 9406

Fiesta Christmas Lights or String of Lights

The fourth colorway came in 2010 after Heather and Evergreen had been discontinued.  They brought in the new color Lemongrass and brought back Turquoise. The colors in the fourth colorway are: Peacock, Shamrock, Turquoise, Lemongrass, Scarlet, Sunflower, Cobalt, & Tangerine. (They have kept the same colors, but rearranged them, see bread tray.)

Below is a list of the pieces that the Christmas Lights, SOL, decal has been applied to.  The royalty vase has been discontinued by HLC.  Other shapes are not currently applied with the decal, such as the stacking cereal bowl, 2qt. bowl, large oval platter, or deep dish pie baker.
